    Here are the series, models and years of manufacture of all Stihl gas chainsaws from 1928 to today.

    The first Still chainsaw was patented by Andreas Still in 1926 and it was an electric model. His second Stihl chainsaw model was the first petrol chainsaw, which appeared in 1929.

    Since then, the company has produced many models. Stihl is a German company, but its chainsaws are now assembled all over the world.

    On older Stihl chainsaws it is often necessary to check the year of manufacture and model number (type) of the saw. This information is important, for example, to know which spare parts will fit. However, many Stihl saws only display this information on a sticker (often illegible or missing), so it is not always easy to identify these important specifications.

    Luckily, Stihl chainsaws have two different identification numbers, permanently embossed on the saw body.
    Serial number (S/N) and part number (P/N). These numbers really say a lot about the saw.

    Availability of some models varies greatly by region.
    After being discontinued in Europe for safety reasons, the 08 S continued to be sold in other countries for many years.
